FAQ

Find practical details about reservations, events, tastings and what to expect when you spend an evening at Bacaro.

1

What does bacaro mean?

Accordion icon

A bacaro is a traditional Venetian wine bar. Locals stop in for a small glass of wine, called an ombra, and a few cicchetti eaten standing at the counter, then move on to the next bar. Our bars in Venice, Milan and London follow the same tradition, with a cicchetti counter at the centre of every room and a wine list built from small estates across Italy.

2

Do you take reservations?

Accordion icon

Yes, for tables of four or more and for every tasting, masterclass and ticketed event. Smaller groups are welcome to walk in: the cicchetti counter and the bar are never booked, so there is always space to stand, order a glass and wait for a table. Bookings can be made by email to the bar you would like to visit.

3

How do I book a tasting or masterclass?

Accordion icon

Every tasting and masterclass is listed on our events page with the date, price and number of places. Tickets are paid in advance and include everything poured or made on the day. Places are limited to keep groups small, and new dates are published two months ahead, so it is worth booking early for weekend classes and the Appassita evenings.

4

Do you cater for vegetarians?

Accordion icon

Yes. Every menu includes vegetarian cicchetti, small plates and desserts, and they are clearly marked on the counter and the menu. Our radicchio risotto and mozzarella in carrozza are among the most ordered dishes on the list. If you have an allergy or other dietary need, tell the team when you order and the kitchen will adapt what it can.

5

Can I book the bar for a private event?

Accordion icon

Yes. Our Venice and London bars can be booked in part or in full for birthdays, anniversaries, company evenings and celebrations. Options range from a long table dinner for twenty to a standing reception for up to a hundred and twenty guests in London. Every event is planned with our general manager, including the menu, wine pairings and timings.

6

Can I buy wine to take home?

Accordion icon

Yes. Every bottle on our list can be bought to take home at shop prices rather than bar prices. Ask any member of the team and they will bring it to the counter, wrapped and ready. Our sommeliers are happy to suggest wines for a dinner, a gift or a special occasion, and larger orders can be prepared in advance by email.

7

Are children welcome?

Accordion icon

Children are welcome with an adult at our Venice and Milan bars until seven in the evening, and weekend lunchtimes are a good time to visit as a family. The kitchen can prepare simple versions of most cicchetti for younger guests. Our London bar is for guests over eighteen at all times, and valid identification may be requested at the door.
